Dorothee Curio, born 1969 in Berlin, studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. She has been working as a freelance stage and costume designer since 2000. Engagements have taken her to the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Volksbühne Berlin, the Centro Dramático Nacional Madrid, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Schauspielhaus Bochum, the ARCUB in Bucharest, the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie Brussels, the NT Gent, the Opéra national de Paris, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Veenfabriek Leiden. She works with directors such as Christoph Marthaler, Paul Koek, Johan Simons, Gianina Carbunariu, Jan Neumann, Christiane Pohle and Sarah Moeremans. In 2013 she received the Hein Heckroth Award for Stage Design, and in 2014 she was a scholarship holder at the artist residency of the Goethe-Institut Kyoto.
