Marleen Ilg studied philosophy and ethnology in Freiburg im Breisgau. From the 2013/14 season, she was successively employed at the Deutsches Theater in Göttingen in press and public relations and as an assistant director. There she realised her first own dramaturgy and directing projects. Together with other ensemble members, she also developed the event series In der Bellevue Bar mit ... as well as editions of the format DT Nacht-Bar.

In 2015, a Master's degree in dramaturgy followed at the HfS Ernst Busch in Berlin with further works of her own, subsequently also in the independent scene. The piece development Singulär Plural Sein! created together with the Berlin performance collective Ebene D, was shown in the programme of the Performing Arts Festival Berlin in 2018. For this work, she was involved in the areas of concept, text and performance. The production Burt directed by Alice Bogaerts was invited to the Körber Studio für Junge Regie as well as to the festival Theater Aan Zee in Oostende. With the start of the 2020/21 season, Marleen Ilg is dramaturg at Schauspiel Leipzig, after having already been engaged as assistant dramaturg for one season.
