Duraid Abbas Ghaieb, born in Baghdad (Iraq) in 1980, studied directing. He works as an actor, theatre maker, dancer, yoga teacher and sufi dancer. He participated in Iraq’s first ever Contemporary Dance workshop and went on to join Iraqi Bodies, one of the first-ever Modern Dance collectives in Iraq. He acted in many short films in Iraq as well as having the lead role in the major feature film, Battle for Haditha, directed by Nick Broomfield and shot in Jordan in 2007. Besides having lived and worked in the Netherlands, Duraid Abbas Ghaieb has also worked in Belgium as an actor and director and is a member of the new theatre company Strange fruit. He also worked as a volunteer in Ecuador for one year in an organization called Inti Sisa, giving English and theatre lessons to children. He is working with the organisation KunstZ as an acting coach. In the 2018/19 season he is performing in Milo Rau’s production Orest in Mossul at the Schauspielhaus Bochum.
