Nils Zapfe was born in Berlin in 1982 and studied acting at the Folkwang University in Bochum until 2007. After three years as a permanent member of the Bielefeld Theatre and as a guest at various other theatres, he became part of two independent collectives for several years. With LOVEFUCKERS he worked at the interface of puppets, politics and performance. With KULTURFILIALE, he explored urban space as an art space with installations and theatrical walks. He has also been working as a director since 2013 and was head director at the tjg Theater Junge Generation Dresden from 2020 to 2023. His production Tiere Essen based on the essay by Jonathan Safran Foer won the Sächsischer Theaterpreis in 2022. He has also directed productions at Staatstheater Braunschweig, Theater Bielefeld, tdjw Leipzig, Sophiensaele Berlin and Theater Osnabrück, among others.
