Liliane Brakema was born in 1987 in The Hague (Netherlands). She finished her studies of directing in Amsterdam in 2015 with a diploma production of Ibsen's Die Wildente, which was immediately invited to the Dutch Theatertreffen. Before directing, she studied acting in Sydney and economics at the University of Amsterdam, where she published her thesis entitled Microfinance: Profit of Poverty Reduction. She gained theatre experience in internships with Johan Simons and Luk Perceval, among others. After completing her directing studies, she founded her own theatre group Firma Ducks, with which she has been working regularly ever since. In 2017 she directed August Strindberg's The Dance of Death at Theater Freiburg and in 2018 at NTGent Menuet based on the novel by Louis Paul Boon. Leonce and Lena in the 2018/2019 season is her first production at Schauspielhaus Bochum.
