Juli Mahid Carly was born in 1997 next to a VW plant in Baunatal. After completing a B.A. in German and History in Göttingen, she studied directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Ludwigsburg until 2022. As an author, theatre director and performer, Juli realises projects in city theatre contexts (NTM Mannheim, Stadttheater Konstanz, Volkstheater München) and with the collective brats in the independent scene, which have been invited to various festivals including Körber Studio Junge Regie 2021 and OutNow! 2023. With the documentary Weißabgleich, Juli won the award for Best Film at the Bundes-Festival Junger Film in Rostock in 2020. In 2020, Juli received the Osnabrück Dramatist Award and in 2022 the Wortmeldungen Förderpreis for critical short texts. Juli also develops numerous participatory music theatre projects with teenagers and young adults for the Studio Lev Kassel association, of which she is the second chairwoman.
