Jens Harzer, born in 1972 in Wiesbaden, studied acting at the Otto Falckenberg Schule in Munich from 1991 to 1993. From 1993 he was a member of Dieter Dorn's ensemble for 16 years, first at Münchner Kammerspiele, then at Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel. He has also appeared at the Schaubühne Berlin, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Burgtheater, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Ruhrtriennale and the Salzburg Festival. Since 2009 he has been a member of the ensemble of the Thalia Theater Hamburg. He has worked with directors such as Dieter Dorn, Peter Zadek, Andrea Breth, Martin Kušej, Luc Bondy, Jürgen Gosch, Dimiter Gotscheff, Luk Perceval and Johan Simons. In cinema he worked together with Michael Verhoeven, Hans-Christian Schmid, Bülent Akıncı and most recently Wim Wenders. In the critics' survey of the theatre journal Theater heute, Jens Harzer was voted Actor of the Year in 2008 and 2011. Since 2019 he has been the holder of the Iffland Ring, one of the highest awards for theatre actors in the German-speaking world, in succession to Bruno Ganz.
