Dick Straker, born 1963 in Pontefract Yorkshire (Great Britain) has studied Fine art at Newcastle Upon Tyne Polytechnic and Graphic Design at Central School of Art, London. He designs projections for theatre, opera, fashion shows and events. In 1992 he formed Mesmer, a company for projection and video creatives. He started the first video department at the National Theatre London in 1999 and designed the projection for numerous productions there. Other work in theatre was created at venues such as the Opera North, the Scottish Opera, the Grange Festival Opera, the Gothenburg Opera, Royal Shakespeare Theatre Stratford, Theatre of Wales, the Abbey Theatre Dublin, Trafalgar Studios, the Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera House, the Barbican. He has designed for many seminal theatre, fashion, commercial and architectural projection events including four projection designs for Alexander McQueen and the McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition (at V&A and Metropolitan Museum of Art). He also teaches theatre design at University of Arts London. At Schauspielhaus Bochum he has designed the video for Die unglaubliche Geschichte vom kleinen Roboterjungen in the 2019/2020 season.
