Liesbeth Coltof, born 1955 in the Netherlands, has over 30 years of theatre experience and is the artistic director of Toneelmakerij in Amsterdam. Coltof's works are aimed at children, young people and adults, her repertoire consists of adaptations of classics, plays by contemporary authors and a variety of theatre projects. She regularly works with artists from other disciplines. For more than 15 years she has also worked repeatedly in the Middle East, including Gaza, Hebron, Ramallah and Jenin, where she stages and leads workshops in which she intensively deals with the lives of the local people. In 1999 she received the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund Price, in 2013 her world premiere production of Ad de Bont's Mehmet De Veroveraar (Mehmed the Conqueror) won the Gouden Krekel Youth Theatre Prize. In 2014 she received the ASSITEJ Award for Artistic Excellence. For her production of Der Junge mit dem Koffer at Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf she was awarded the German theatre prize Der Faust in 2016. At Schauspielhaus Bochum she stages The Neverending Story in the 2020/2021 season.
