Katrijn Friant studied piano and chamber music at the conservatory in Ghent and perfected her skills in song accompaniment with Dalton Baldwin and Gérard Souzay in Geneva. She was a finalist in the Gunther competition and the Stephan De Jonge competition, and laureate of the Radio 3 prize for contemporary chamber music. She has performed as a pianist in Europe, Russia and South America, but her main interest has always concerned works with the human voice. She has been conducting choirs since her student days, working regularly as a rehearsal pianist and accompanying various singers such as Rolande Vander Paal, Françoise Vanhecke, Erika Pauwels, Jacqueline Van Quaillie and others. She has worked freelance with NTG, Arca, VRT, Flemish Opera, the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders, chamber opera Transparant, the Operastudio and others. She is an accompanist at the conservatory in Ghent and teaches piano at the urban academy in Deinze. She was also at the musical helm of the self-willed choir Novecanto for 20 years.
