Bettina Pommer, born in Graz in 1984, studied scenography and exhibition design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe. After her studies she worked as a stage design assistant at the Münchner Kammerspiele. During this time she began collaborating with Johan Simons, for whom she designed the sets for Judas (2012) and März (2014) at the Münchner Kammerspiele, as well as Deutschstunde (2014) and Der Schimmelreiter (2016) at the Thalia Theater Hamburg. At the Ruhrtriennale she worked with him on the opera productions Das Rheingold (2015) and Cosmopolis (2017). She was awarded the Eva-Bonacker-Preis 2015 for the stage design for the production of Deutschstunde at the Thalia Theater Hamburg, and the production Dit zijn de Namen directed by Philipp Becker at NTGent was invited to the Nederlands Theater Festival 2016. The production Der Schimmelreiter directed by Johan Simons was invited to the Theatertreffen 2017. During the 2018/2019 season, her stage design can be seen in Johan Simon's staging of Judas, Philipp Beckers staging of Was glänzt and Liliane Brakema‘s staging of Leonce und Lena at Schauspielhaus Bochum.
