Jonathan Mertz, born 1986 in Stuttgart, studied free art and stage design with Raimund Bauer at the Hochschule for educational Art in Hamburg and with Marie-José Burki at the École Nationale Supérieur des Beaux Arts in Paris. During his studies, a firm collaboration developed with the director Christopher Rüping. This resulted in stage designs for Hass at the St. Pauli Theater, as well as for Philoktet - mein Hass gehört mir and Jekyll/Hyde at Kampnagel. In addition, Jonathan Mertz designed the stage for The Great Gatsby and Die andere Seite at Schauspiel Frankfurt. In 2012, he designed the set for Freund Till, genannt Eulenspiegel at the Staatstheater Braunschweig and Tschick at the Thalia Theater Hamburg.
