Katrin Aschendorf, born in Hamburg, first learned the costume trade at the theatre, including at the Kampnagel cultural centre in Hamburg. Katrin Aschendorf was nominated for the 2015 German Film Award for her costumes for Fatih Akin's historical drama The Cut.
In addition to further work for television, Aschendorf subsequently designed the costumes for Max Zichte's highly acclaimed crime comedy Schrotten! as well as Fatih Akin's multiple award-winning and US Golden Globe-winning drama Aus dem Nichts starring Diane Kruger. She received another nomination for the German Film Award for Akin's novel adaptation Der goldene Handschuh about the serial killer Fritz Honka in the St. Pauli neighbourhood of the 1970s.
