Tobias Staab, born in 1981 in Stuttgart, studied Theatre Studies, Philosophy and Modern German Literature at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and subsequently taught at the Institute for Theatre Studies. He also worked at the Sound and Movement (SaM) research centre for contemporary theatre and new media. At the same time he appeared as a concert promoter, DJ and music journalist. With Ritournelle, he established a festival for advanced electronic pop music at the Münchner Kammerspiele in 2012, where he began his work as a dramaturg. From 2015 to 2017 he worked as curator and dramaturg for the Ruhrtriennale under the direction of Johan Simons. He has worked with directors Johan Simons, René Pollesch and Julian Rosefeldt, among others. He has also launched various programs and festivals in the fields of music, performative and installative arts (Melt Festival, Noise Signal Silence, Panta Rhei Festival, Bauhaus Festival 2019). Together with the US choreographer Richard Siegal and the dance producer Claudia Bauer (Ecotopia Dance) he founded the dance company Ballet of Difference in 2016. From 2018/19 to 2019/20 he was dramaturge at Schauspielhaus Bochum, where he has since also curated the programme of the Oval Office and the series Konzerte im Schauspielhaus. At Schauspielhaus Bochum, he also created two of his own directorial works. Since 2020 he has been working as a freelance dramaturge and curator.
