Text
The American composer Terry Riley is considered to be one of the most important composers of the so-called minimalism of the 1960s, alongside Steve Reich. With pieces like In C, he took repetition out of its background existence as rhythm and declared it to be the central principle of his music. His Time Lag Accumulator III installation is based on a system that uses tape machines to generate echo and delay effects. In the labyrinthine system of mirrored doors, visitors inside participate directly by creating sounds that then come together as a composition of loops stacked on top of each other.
